Fire resistance belongs to an assembly
A fire-resistance rating depends on the masonry unit and the wall assembly, including material, equivalent thickness, grout or fill, finishes and the applicable design method. A shape name or nominal width alone does not establish a rating.
The older technical reference includes code tables from the 1980s. Those tables are not presented as current approvals. Obtain the applicable assembly details and current supporting documentation for the project.
NRG insulated masonry
The NRG reference describes an insulated masonry system in 8-, 10- and 12-inch wall configurations. Discuss the complete system, compatible units, insulation, connections and current availability with Krebs.
Thermal resistance, thermal lag, condensation behavior and sound transmission depend on the tested assembly and conditions. Ask for the current reports; older promotional figures are not a guarantee for a new project.
A useful documentation request
Provide the required fire rating, energy or acoustic target, wall thickness, finish, structural requirements and project location. Ask the designer to confirm the assembly and code requirements and ask Krebs for available product-specific evidence.
Use these resources to prepare for a project conversation. Confirm current products, dimensions and availability with Krebs; construction and performance requirements must follow the project’s applicable specifications.
